About the Event
*Are you a practitioner who would like to practice embodied, multi-sensory, right-brain skills on how to work with trauma?
*Do you want to explore expressive interventions that can support people who experience anxiety, anger issues or depression?
*Do you want to practice various expressive interventions that help the regulation of emotions?
Let us visualise, vocalise, sing, dance, smell, taste, touch and sense our way through healing.
In this experiential and expressive online training, my intention is to create a space with you to explore and practice more skills that aim at supporting the healing of trauma. These multi-sensory interventions are useful for emotional self-regulation and support healing when words might not be enough or people are finding it hard to speak. Such interventions are very useful for people who experience anxiety or depression or anger management issues. We will be taking into consideration the fact that when it comes to our preferred learning styles, we are wired differently. We might be aware that we rely on some of these senses more than others, so we might be attracted to ways of working that are more resonant to our learning style. At the same time, we can benefit immensely from expanding our comfort-zone in our practices. While working on our own personal development, we become more able to cater to clients with different needs. The senses we will explore include:
• Visual “I see you”,
• Auditory “I hear you”,
• Touch “I feel touched”
• Smell: “I smell something…”
• Taste: “The experience tasted…”
• Kinaesthetic learners: “I move with you”
• Intuitive “I sense…”
Therapeutic interventions (even online,) do not have to constantly take place sitting down or rely only on words. While for some clients incorporating movement or other non-verbal practices in our therapy is a choice, for others, right-brain, multi-sensory interventions are definitely the treatment of choice for many evidence-based reasons. When experiencing trauma, we might not feel initially regulated enough to ‘tell the story’, thus other ways that support expression and regulation of emotions can be crucial (Van der Kolk, 2014).
Expressive therapeutic interventions based on visualisation, sound, touch, smell, taste, movement or intuition can also be practised online. In fact, this is how I have practised many of these innovative ways of working myself (both as a therapist and as an explorer) during the lockdown. As you might have probably discovered, it is crucial that we keep finding ways to engage our body through the different senses. Therapy can be an unfolding, multi-sensory journey. To such a journey I am thus inviting you.
Looking forward to our co-constructed right-brain space.
