· Are you ready to engage your inner child as one of your co-therapists and consultants in your professional practice and your life?
· Would you like to continue to explore multi-sensory ways how you can bring home and celebrate your inner child and support your clients to welcome theirs?
“Welcome home dear child, I see you, you are safe, you are loved…let us dance” Grech, 2023
Connecting with the inner child can help us tap into our sense of joy and creativity, it will allow us to understand what our inner child needed all along, and to find a way of providing the inner child with its essential needs. These needs include: feeling safe, feeling validated, feeling loved and feeling supported to be creative and expressive. (Grech, 2018; Healing our Inner Child Workshop)
Aimed for: Multi-disciplinary practitioners who would like to practice multi-sensory inner child work and discover ways how they can integrate it in their practice. Since the workshop is experiential, it also aims to support the personal and professional growth of the practitioners. The professionals include psychotherapists, family therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, counsellors, guidance teachers, social workers, child and youth care workers, support workers and others. Practitioners from various therapeutic modalities including gestalt, systemic, humanistic and the expressive arts therapists will feel right at home in this workshop. Other practitioners who would like to open up to the possibility of integrating this way of working in their skill set might want to join as well.
Those of you who attended the previous inner child workshops will notice new interventions being integrated in this workshop.
Interventions we will be exploring:
· Multi-sensory techniques to help us co-create this embodied journey of connecting with our inner child.
· Systemic constellation with our inner child.
· Pacing the work according to where the client is in the process.
· Practice how to bring our inner child home and integrate him/her into our daily lives.
· Engaging our inner child as our co-therapist or one of our consultants in our work.
· How to integrate inner-child work when working with couples and families.
A Reflection: One of my core beliefs as a therapeutic practitioner is that we can only take our fellow travellers to paths that we are familiar and comfortable with. In order to explore the possibility of inner child work with our clients, we want to honour our own inner child as practitioners. S/he has so much resources within that are ready to be unleashed and activated. Bringing home my own inner child and having her with me during my practice hours and other significant moments in my life, has been of so much support. That is why I believe so much in this way of working. It brings me so much joy to be able to bring my inner child in this workshop with you and share some of these resources that support our work to feel like play. And as Margot Sunderland would put it “imagination and play are a serious business”. So may this workshop join in the movement for supporting the integration of these expressive ways of working in our practices.
My inner child and I look forward to welcoming you and your inner child to my clinic. May you feel at home!
Wishing you well, and thank you for your service to the community!
